None of us comes through life unscathed in some way, no matter how good the intentions of those around us. Our parents do the best they can with what they have. Others in our lives are more well-intended than others, but that doesn't stop us from seeing the good that came about as a result, good or bad.
Fact is, there are many people, situations and things that can be credited for our personal growth throughout our lives.
But for me, some of the "things" that made a difference in my life were books. Books that showed life for some was significantly more difficult than mine. And I really needed that because mine was tough! Books that tapped into my spiritual side and awakened me in ways I never imagined. Books that showed me a more enlightened way to think.
There was a post going around on Facebook recently. Maybe you saw it. We were asked to list the 10 books that have touched us. We weren't to think too hard. Or even remember the author. Just list books we've read that have made an impact on us.
Only ten? I thought. But I was up for the challenge. And decided to share them here. The following are my top ten...for now.
1. The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck
2. Roots by Alex Haley
3. A New Earth (anything by Eckhardt Tolle)
4. Conversations with God Series (anything by Neale Donald Walsch)
5. Ask and It is Given (anything by Ester Hicks-Abraham)
6. Loving What Is (anything by Byron Katie)
7. Radical Forgiveness by Colin Tipping
8. The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz
9. The Wisdom of Menopause by Dr Christiane Northrup
10. A Course in Miracles by Helen Shucman
I’m aging myself with 1 & 2, and could easily have also put down A Brave New World by Aldous Huxley in that grouping. These books were life-altering for me, making me realize how difficult others had it, which made me see what I endured in a different light.
Definitely aging myself with 9…and to all you ladies out there, put this one on your list of must reads for yourself; get it now for your future self.
But 3 through 8 and 10 are a clear indication of where my heart truly lies. These books have not only helped me with healing path, they've taken my healing to heights I never dreamed possible.

What are some of the books that have made a difference in your life?
I am surprised "the Secret" is not on your list.
ReplyDeleteThe Secret could have made it on my list. But didn't because it only touched the surface of the Law of Attraction. What it did was lead me to books that went into far greater detail. Like the Abraham-Hicks books. But good point. Fact is, there are several books that could have made it here. Tough to keep it down to only 10.
DeleteYou always promote positive thinking so I expected to see The Power of Positive thinking here.
